Who hasn’t heard of Donna Summer?
Undoubtedly, she is one of the most recognized female voices
of all time.
It is hard to believe that we have lost another ICON in the
music industry and that all the angels in heaven put on their dancing shoes yet
again, to welcome the Queen of Disco.
She was hot stuff working hard for her money, believed it could be magic, walked away and always stamped her feet to the melody of love.
This Lady of The Night, had 32 singles on the Billboard Hot
100 Singles, 14 of which went top 10, five Grammy nominations for music
spanning 4 decades and she was the first artist to have three
consecutive double albums reach number 1.
Her music was an orchestral disco soundtrack to many of my dance
floor shenanigans, especially in the late `90s when Junior Vasquez would end
his Saturday night Arena parties with Last Dance. Junior would tease the crowd
with snippets of the track as a signal that the night`s fun would soon be over.
But perhaps my goose bump
Donna Summer moment was when I heard Junior drop the 17- minute Macarthur
Park Suite masterpiece in its entirety. Seeing joy in people’s faces
twirling to this song with child-like spirit, people holding hands and their
smiles that could light up the night’s sky is a memory I will cherish forever.
Her music touched many and her beats will live on forever,
thanks for saving the last dance with us Donna!
Much love and Respect
RIP
