"It's in my DNA, so let the music play"...says Rye Rye

If there was one thing to take away from me that I couldn't live without, the answer is simple.

MUSIC!

I am sure there are many of you that feel the same.

Music is really part of my DNA and is my driving life force.

It feeds my soul, attitude, mood, creativity and dreams.

Whether I am getting ready for work, strutting down the street, dancing in the club, writing emails or blogging, I am listening to beats.

Sometimes it can be distracting too, as I am shaking my ass on the chair or shashay-ing all over my apartment feeling fresh and not getting what I need DONE.

But that is the beauty with music; it moves us emotionally and physically with the ability to teach us things about ourselves we have or have not tapped into.

So on this gorgeous Sunday I wanted to share some music that HAS GOT ME BOOTY SHAKING THIS PAST WEEKEND!

1) RYE RYE: This hip-hopper is driving me crazy with her quick raps and funky dance beats. 2 stand-outs are DNA and Dance.

2) GOSSIP!!!! I was late on the Beth Ditto train but once I got on, there was no way I was getting off. Beth Ditto not only has a unique physical presence but her voice commands attention and she delivers a spectacular performance on their new album Joyful Noise. My standouts from the album are GET LOST and HORNS.

Give these girls some attention....YOU`LL THANK ME LATER.

America Got it Wrong!

Philip Phillips as the American Idol?

Sorry folks, I believe the most talented singer- Joshua Ledet- was voted off and really I could care less who stole the show but after seeing Jessica sing with Jennifer Holliday...it was clear she was beyond her years and was the winner in my eyes.

But as we know voting for these shows is done by young teenage girls who have no clue and base their votes off of their hormones.

Album sales for the three SHOULD BE INTERESTING TO WATCH.

Sorry Joshua and Jessica.

You were the CHAMPIONS!

P.S. How can anyone take a singer seriously with a name like Philip Phillips?

WEIRD...

Just saying.

We Love to Love You Donna...

Who hasn’t heard of Donna Summer?

Undoubtedly, she is one of the most recognized female voices of all time.

It is hard to believe that we have lost another ICON in the music industry and that all the angels in heaven put on their dancing shoes yet again, to welcome the Queen of Disco.
She was hot stuff working hard for her money, believed it could be magic, walked away and always stamped her feet to the melody of love.

This Lady of The Night, had 32 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles, 14 of which went top 10, five Grammy nominations for music spanning 4 decades and she was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach number 1.

Her music was an orchestral disco soundtrack to many of my dance floor shenanigans, especially in the late `90s when Junior Vasquez would end his Saturday night Arena parties with Last Dance. Junior would tease the crowd with snippets of the track as a signal that the night`s fun would soon be over.

But perhaps my goose bump  Donna Summer moment was when I heard Junior drop the 17- minute Macarthur Park Suite masterpiece in its entirety. Seeing joy in people’s faces twirling to this song with child-like spirit, people holding hands and their smiles that could light up the night’s sky is a memory I will cherish forever.

Her music touched many and her beats will live on forever, thanks for saving the last dance with us Donna!

Much love and Respect

RIP

Love Is The Message...

Today is International day Against Homophobia.

I remember a time not too long ago when I was bullied incessantly in school.

Going to school everyday and not knowing what someone would say or do to you is not fun!

My torture was often on the bus. Kids in the back thought it was funny to scream faggot out the window when I got off, throw things at me from out of the window and screaming demeaning things to me in the hallways.

People say there just words but repeated attacks can be internalized. When you, yourself start believing the lies, you give power over to them and they win.

No one deserves to be bullied!!!!

When I hear stories of bullying today, it makes me sad to know their are children in pain, often silent and sometimes fatal!

What's worse is that kids have more avenues to bully each other with access to Facebook and Twitter.

My advice to kids being bullied is, it does get better. Never apologize for being you! You are beautiful and you deserve to be happy. Never let others take that from you.

To those doing the bullying...think about what you are doing to someone. Why cause someone unesscessary pain? What is this bringing to your life?

It takes more energy to be negative and mean than it does to smile!

Remember,

Love is the message. Stop the hate. Bullying is wrong. Stand up and stay strong!
No one does you better than YOU!
